12.122

One thousand seven hundred foolish patch-robed monks / Surround this old fellow of ignorance. / Delicacy and refinement he has not an ounce of, / But coarse roughness he has seven or eight bushels of. / Never has he entered tranquil Chan meditation; / All day long he rushes along the corridors. / His way of handling people is laughable too; / He allows no one to carelessly open their mouth. / Blind flails and blind sticks serve as his compassion; / Right or wrong, he strikes them straight across the spine! / Presiding over the Dharma and acting as a lineage teacher like this, / He in vain continues the lineage of Śākyamuni's descendants. / Ben, Chan practitioner, by no means learn from him; / If you learn from him, you too will end up useless and inept.
