This rustic monk—few people can get near him. With his coarse bamboo comb of black lacquer, even if a buddha comes, he strikes a blow. Not an autumn hair of human sentiment does he have, but tens of thousands of insolent ways. When compassionate, Avalokiteśvara Bodhisattva cannot match him; when wrathful, an asura king can hardly be compared to him. An obnoxious and hateful person in the world is an ācārya such as this; why would anyone paint him and make offerings of food?
