When you initially attain tranquility of body and mind, you must diligently exert effort; you must not immediately bury your roots in the place of tranquility. In the teachings this is called the fearful place of the deep pit of liberation. You must make it roll smoothly like a gourd on water, free and self-at-ease, not subjected to restraint, entering the pure and entering the defiled without obstruction and without sinking; only then will you have a slight share of intimacy in the school of patch-robed monks. If you only hold a child who does not cry, what use is it? Konghui, think on this.
