This Path has never been more desolate than today. Heterodox teachers preach the Dharma like clusters of rudrākṣa beads; each claims for himself to have attained the unsurpassed Path, all chanting heterodox doctrines to bewitch ordinary fools. Therefore, I constantly gnash my teeth at this, sparing neither body nor life in wishing to sustain it, so that the seeds of bright light may know there is our family's proper affair and not fall into the net of wrong views. If by some chance the Buddha-seed within the realm of sentient beings is not severed, I will also not have received the yellow-faced old fellow's protection in vain. As it is said, 'Offering this deep mind to the dust-mote realms—this is called repaying the Buddha's kindness.' Yet this is also a matter of not knowing the times and not estimating my own strength. Since you are an insider, I cannot help speaking of insider matters; letting the brush flow, I unwittingly arrived at this.
