Now that you have received the thoughtful support of external protectors, you can naturally push aside mundane human affairs and frequently conduct Buddhist affairs with the patch-robed monks. In time it will naturally become extraordinary. Furthermore, I hope that in your room you will be meticulous with them: you must not accommodate human feelings, and you must not descend into the weeds with them; offer them straight away the provender of their proper portion, causing them to awaken for themselves and attain it for themselves—only this is the style of a venerable elder in helping people. If you see them hesitating and failing to recognize it, and immediately provide them with annotations and explanations, not only do you blind their eyes, but you also lose your own proper methods. If you do not find the right person, it means our karmic conditions are simply thus; but if you obtain one or a half who possesses the proper portion, you will also not fail your lifelong aspiration.
