Arriving at Zifu, [the Master] was invited to ascend the hall. He brought up: "Reverend Shun of Xiangcheng made a verse on Huanglong's Three Checkpoints, saying: 'Old Reverend Huanglong had a three-checkpoint phrase. This mountain monk inherited him, and today presents it for you; presents it for you—the cat is singularly skilled at catching mice.' Chan Master Guangjian Ying, upon seeing this verse, said: 'Good though it is, I only fear students will understand it as [mere] nothing-to-do.'" The Master said, "True indeed are these words! This mountain monk today also has a verse: / 'Huanglong's words cover heaven and earth; / from the beginning tightly woven, not letting in the wind. / Posterity routinely echoes its sound, / all saying the cat is skilled at catching bugs.'" (Zifu was the Dharma grandson of Guangjian.)
