范縣君號寂壽道人，在城都參佛果，果教渠看，不是心，不是佛，不是物，是什麼？不得下語，不得開口。看來看去，無入頭便覺悽惶，乃問佛果云：「此外有何方便令某甲會去？」果云：「有箇方便，不是心，不是佛，不是物。」壽於此有省，乃云：「元來得恁麼近。」

Lady Fan of the County, styled Daoist Jishou, studied under Foguo in Chengdu. Guo taught her to look into: 'It is not mind, it is not buddha, it is not a thing; what is it?' She was not allowed to offer words, nor was she allowed to open her mouth. Looking into it continuously, she found no point of entry and felt distressed. She then asked Foguo, "Aside from this, what expedient is there to make me understand?" Guo said, "There is an expedient: it is not mind, it is not buddha, it is not a thing." Shou had an awakening at this and said, "It turns out to have been this close!"
