1.81

生、肇、融、叡，乃羅什法師之高弟，號四依菩薩，嘗同羅什釋《維摩經》，至〈不可思議品〉皆閣筆，蓋此境界非心思口議，遂不能措一詞。如李長者論入華嚴法界，詞分句解皎如日星，泮然無疑，若非親遇了緣，安能如此。

Sheng, Zhao, Rong, and Rui were senior disciples of Master Kumārajīva, styled the 'Bodhisattvas of the Four Reliances'. They once joined Kumārajīva in explaining the *Vimalakīrti Sūtra*; when they came to the 'Inconceivable Chapter', they all put down their brushes, for this realm is not something the mind can ponder or the mouth can discuss, so they could not set down a single word. By contrast, Elder Li's treatise on entering the *Avataṃsaka* Dharma Realm analyzes the expressions and explains the lines as clearly as the sun and the stars, resolving doubts without lingering question; had he not personally encountered the realized conditions, how could he have done so?
