When Liao Dengguan was the magistrate of Shanhua County in Tanzhou, there was an old woman who recited the Diamond Sūtra every day, begging for food in the marketplaces and returning to sleep in a mountain ravine at night. Suddenly, for several days, she was not seen begging, and a flock of crows gathered cawing at her dwelling place. [Liao] sent someone to go and look. They saw her leaning against a crag, holding the Diamond Sūtra, having passed away; the flock of crows was carrying earth to cover her. The Master ascended the hall and brought this up; at that time, Magistrate Liao was also seated in the assembly.
