降御香到，上堂：「天地合其德，日月合其明，四時合其序，風以時，雨以時，國秦時平，民康物阜；萬姓四民合其一心，熙熙焉！陶陶焉！一人有慶兆民賴之。是故林下禪人居於四民之外，二六時中據德山棒，擔睦州板，驢耕夫牛，奪飢人食。拈一莖草作丈六金身；將丈六金身作一莖草。卷舒自在，縱奪臨時，堪報不報之恩，共助無為之化。」復舉：「肅宗帝問忠國師：『如何是十身調御？』國師道：『檀越蹈毘盧頂上行。』前日開堂次，僧問：『如何是十身調御？』山僧對他道：『垂手過膝。』諸人且道：山僧與麼答他，與國師是一是二？若道是一，語言參差；若道是二，佛法豈有兩般？畢竟如何？大海若知足，百川應倒流。」

Imperial incense having arrived, he ascended the hall and said: "Heaven and Earth join their virtues; the sun and moon join their brightness; the four seasons join their sequence. Wind comes at its season, and rain comes at its season; the country is at peace and the era tranquil, the people healthy and things abundant. The myriad surnames and the four classes of people unite into a single mind, joyous and delighted! When the One Man enjoys fortune, the millions rely upon it. Therefore, Chan practitioners in the groves dwell outside the four classes of people: throughout the twelve double-hours, wielding Deshan's stick, shouldering Muzhou's board, driving the farmer's ox, snatching the hungry man's food. They pick up a stalk of grass and make it a sixteen-foot golden body; they take a sixteen-foot golden body and make it a stalk of grass. Rolling up and unfurling with ease, releasing and seizing as the occasion requires, they are fit to repay the debt of gratitude that cannot be repaid, and together aid the transformation of non-action." He further cited: "Emperor Suzong asked National Teacher Zhong: 'What is the Tamer of the Ten Bodies?' The National Teacher said: 'The patron walks atop Vairocana's crown.' The other day during the opening of the hall, a monk asked: 'What is the Tamer of the Ten Bodies?' This mountain monk answered him: 'Hands hanging down past the knees.' Everyone, tell me: Is this mountain monk's reply to him the same as or different from the National Teacher's? If you say they are the same, the words are disparate; if you say they are different, how could the Buddhadharma have two kinds? In the end, what about it? If the great ocean knew contentment, the hundred streams would flow backward."
