拈疏云：「黃面老子，二千年前靈山會上付囑國王大臣一則語，流布天上人間綿綿不墜。有眼者見，有耳者聞，聞見既通，塞却耳根，更須諦聽。」

Holding up the register, he said: "The yellow-faced old fellow, two thousand years ago at the assembly on Gṛdhrakūṭa, entrusted a phrase to kings and great ministers, which has spread through heaven and the human world, continuous without falling away. Those with eyes see it; those with ears hear it. Since hearing and seeing have already penetrated, block up the ear roots and listen even more attentively!"
