上堂：「說到行不到，好肉剜瘡；行到說不到，扶籬摸壁；行說俱到，石笋抽條；行說俱不到，擔雪填井。離四句絕百非即不問，諸人且道文殊問不二法門，維摩因什麼默然？」喝一喝云：「貪他一粒粟，失却半年糧。」

Ascending the hall: "To speak of it without reaching it in practice is gouging a wound in healthy flesh; to reach it in practice without being able to speak of it is groping along fences and feeling walls; when both practice and speech arrive, bamboo shoots sprout from stone; when neither practice nor speech arrives, one carries snow to fill a well. Leaving aside the four propositions and cutting off the hundred negations, tell me, everyone: when Mañjuśrī asked about the dharma-gate of non-duality, why was Vimalakīrti silent?" He gave a shout and said, "Greedy for a single grain of his millet, one loses half a year's provisions."
