妙處如何論淺深？應之於手得於心，方圓不用機謀力，長短休將語默尋。一斧便成真活計，三思始就費光陰，山僧直截重重說，須信真鍮不博金。

How can one discuss depth in the marvelous realm?
It answers to the hand and is attained in the mind.
Square and circle need no effort of scheming ingenuity;
Long and short—cease seeking them in speech or silence.
A single stroke of the axe immediately becomes true livelihood;
Taking three thoughts before completing it merely wastes time.
The mountain monk speaks straightforwardly and repeatedly:
You must trust that genuine brass does not barter for gold.
