佛祖閫域，衲僧巴鼻，如大火聚，無一針鋒許與人作道理湊泊，只貴當人具逸群氣概直截荷負。譬如真獅子王哮吼一聲壁立萬仞，始見不孤從上爪牙也。靈山拈花已前，少林直指之後，繩繩相繼，如鏡照像毫髮無差，皆是夙承願力。提持遮一著子，非獨與天下人抽釘拔楔。至於九有四生，俾令洞徹正知正見，是為大丈夫成就大丈夫事。

The threshold of the Buddhas and ancestors, the patch-robed monk's handle, is like a great mass of fire; it offers not a needle's point of principle for people to approach. It only values that the person possesses outstanding mettle to shoulder it directly. For example, when the true lion king roars, standing like a wall of ten thousand cubits, only then does one see that the claws and fangs handed down from antiquity have not been betrayed. Before the flower was held up at Gṛdhrakūṭa and after the direct pointing at Shaolin, it has continued unbroken, like a mirror reflecting images without the slightest error—all due to past vows. Upholding this single matter is not only pulling out nails and wedges for the people of the world; it also enables beings in the nine realms of existence and the four modes of birth to thoroughly penetrate right knowledge and right view. This is how a great man accomplishes a great man's task.
