He brought up [the following]: “In his causal ground, the Bhagavat spread his hair to cover the mud and offered flowers to Dīpaṃkara Tathāgata. Seeing the place where the hair was spread, Dīpaṃkara held back the assembly, pointed to that ground, and said, ‘This spot of ground is suitable for building a Brahma monastery.’ In the assembly, an elder named Xianyu took a stake and drove it into the spot pointed to, saying, ‘The building of the Brahma monastery is already finished.’ At that time, the devas scattered flowers and praised him, saying, ‘This common fellow has great wisdom!’” The Master said, “Great assembly: where Dīpaṃkara pointed, dripping water turned to ice; when Xianyu drove the stake, heaven turned and earth spun. If you can see into this, the ancient Śākya is not first, and the present Grand Preceptor is not after. If you have not yet done so, listen further to my added footnote: Do not clear away the thorns to build a saṅghārāma; / The seven buddhas constantly come here to participate. / Ground enduring and heaven long, the merit does not fall away; / Heavenly flowers from time to time rain down abundantly.”
