上堂，舉：「藥山示眾：『我有一句子，待特牛生兒，即向汝道。』時有僧出云：『特牛生兒了也，為甚不道？』山喚侍者將燈來，其僧便歸眾。」師云：「者僧歸眾太速，蹉過藥山。」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "Yaoshan instructed the assembly: 'I have a phrase; wait until a bull gives birth to a calf, and then I will speak it to you.' At that time a monk came forward and said: 'The bull has already given birth to a calf; why don't you speak it?' Yaoshan called to the attendant to bring a lamp, and the monk returned to the assembly." The Master said: "This monk returned to the assembly too quickly and missed Yaoshan."
