上堂，舉：「資福因僧問：『古人拈椎竪拂，意旨如何？』福云：『古人恁麼？』僧再問，福便喝。」師云：「好大眾，如馬前廝撲，者僧若恁麼，有甚資福？」

Ascending the hall, he cited: "Because a monk asked Zifu, 'What is the meaning of the ancients taking up the mallet and raising the whisk?' Fu said, 'Were the ancients like this?' The monk asked again, and Fu shouted." The Master said: "Fine great assembly! Like wrestling in front of a horse: if this monk were like this, what Zifu would there be?"
