上堂，拈主丈：「面赤不如語直，道道。」靠主丈云：「主丈子，不是患聾，便是患啞。」

Ascending the hall, [the Master] picked up his staff: "A flushed face is not as good as straight speech. Speak, speak!" Leaning on the staff, he said: "This staff is either suffering from deafness or suffering from muteness."
