上堂，舉：「雪竇，春山疊亂青，春水漾虛碧，寥寥天地間，獨立望何極。乳峯年老思鄉，東望西望，興聖豈不知道？春波門外，有水無山，尋常只是，不能望得。何故？路途雖好，不如在家。」

Ascending the hall, he brought up [the following]: "Xuedou said: 'Spring mountains layer disorganized greens; / Spring waters ripple with empty emerald. / Solitary between heaven and earth, / Standing alone, gazing—where is the limit?' In his old age on Ru Peak, he longed for his homeland, looking east and looking west. How could Xingsheng not know? Outside the Gate of Spring Waves, there is water but no mountain; ordinarily one simply cannot gaze upon it. Why? Although the road is fine, it is not as good as being at home."
