1.86

謝南禪雲壑和尚并維那上堂：「道人相見，如雲升空，如水赴壑，品藻張鬍子頷下無鬚，罵詈諸方擣濕穀喫飯，忽有箇漢出來道：『低聲低聲，新維那令嚴，不要說人長短。』山僧只得休去。何故？禹力不到處，河聲流向西。」

Thanking Upādhyāya Yunhe of Nanshan and the karmadāna, he ascended the hall: "When people of the Way meet each other, like clouds rising into the sky, like waters rushing to a gorge, criticizing Old Zhang's lacking a beard on his chin, scolding the various quarters for pounding damp grain to eat. Suddenly a fellow comes out and says, 'Lower your voice, lower your voice! The new karmadāna's orders are strict; do not speak of people's merits and demerits.' This mountain monk could only desist. Why? Where Yu's power did not reach, the sound of the River flows westward."
