復舉：「疎山示眾：『老僧咸通年已前，會得法身邊事；咸通年已後，會得法身向上事。』」師云：「古人明修棧道，暗度陳倉。山僧端平二年住此山，牽長補短，隨分過時；若是法身邊事，巢父飲牛，許由洗耳。」

He also cited: "Shushan instructed the assembly: 'Before the Xiantong era, this old monk understood the matter of the side of the Dharmakāya; after the Xiantong era, I understood the matter going beyond the Dharmakāya.'" The Master said: "The ancients openly repaired the plank road while secretly crossing at Chencang. This mountain monk came to dwell on this mountain in the second year of Duanping, pulling the long to patch the short, passing the time as duty requires. If it is the matter of the side of the Dharmakāya: Chaofu waters his ox, and Xu You washes his ears."
