10.91

大慧下尊宿，尚多足陌；虎丘下子孫，尚多省數。足陌使之有限，省數用之無窮。罵天翁三傳而之霜林，萬木正當凋落，欝然興起，此蓋擅省數而得之。善觀是錄者，可以陞其堂，而未可入其室。

Among the venerable masters under Dahui, there are still many 'full strings of cash'; among the descendants under Huqiu, there are still many 'discounted counts'. The full string makes it limited; the discounted count makes its use boundless. From the Old Man Who Curses Heaven, it was transmitted three times down to Shuanglin; just when the myriad trees were withering, he rose up luxuriantly—this was entirely attained through mastery of the discounted count. Those who are good at examining this record may ascend his hall, but they cannot yet enter his inner room.
