乃舉：「欽山同嵓頭、雪峯到德山，乃問：『天皇也與麼道，龍潭也與麼道，未審德山作麼生道？』德山云：『汝試舉天皇、龍潭底看。』欽擬議，德山便打，遂至延壽云：『是則是，打我太殺。』嵓頭云：『爾與麼，他後不得道見德山。』」師云：「欽山只箇擬議，德山、巖頭俱納敗闕。若是龍門上客，必為點頭；其如聽響之流，墮在區宇。」

He then cited: "Qinshan, together with Yantou and Xuefeng, went to Deshan and asked, 'Tianhuang spoke thus, Longtan also spoke thus; I wonder how Deshan speaks?' Deshan said, 'Try to cite what Tianhuang and Longtan said.' Qin hesitated. Deshan struck him. [Qin] then went to the infirmary and said, 'Right though it may be, he hit me excessively.' Yantou said, 'If you are like this, in the future you must not say you have seen Deshan.'" The Master said: "Qinshan merely hesitated, and Deshan and Yantou both incurred defeat. If he were an honored guest at the Dragon Gate, he would surely nod his head; but as for those who merely follow sounds, they fall into confines."
