The Master then said: "When a single leaf falls, it is autumn under heaven—mistaking a servant for the master; when a single speck of dust rises, the great earth is gathered in—traces still remain. In early autumn and late summer, one must head straight to where there is not an inch of grass for ten thousand miles. Dry thatch catches fire; stepping out the door, there is grass everywhere. When seeing others rich and noble, always rejoice; do not let your heart burn like fire. Thus, thus: entangling vines from all four directions are swept away at once; not thus, not thus: the ninety days of effort are put to the test tonight. Roam at ease among the ten continents and three islands; come and go at will across Yandang and Tiantai. But as for Yunmen's saying, 'Give me back the cost of ninety days of meals,' how do you understand it?"
