復舉：「本朝太宗皇帝因入大相國寺，見僧看經，問曰：『卿看甚麼經？』對曰：『仁王護國經。』帝曰：『既是寡人經，因甚在卿手裏？』僧鞠躬退身不對。雪竇曰：『皇天無親，惟德是輔。』」師云：「太宗古鑑高懸，無私不燭；者僧鞠躬不對，經旨歷然。雪竇道：『皇天無親，惟德是輔。』又作麼生？」卓主丈：「四海盡歸皇化裡，三邊誰敢犯封疆。」

He also cited: "Because Emperor Taizong of this dynasty entered the Great Xiangguo Monastery and saw a monk reading a sutra, he asked, 'What sutra are you reading, minister?' The monk replied, 'The Renwang Huguo Jing.' The Emperor said, 'Since it is my sutra, why is it in your hands?' The monk bowed and stepped back without replying. Xuedou said, 'August Heaven has no favorites; it aids only virtue.'" The Master said: "Taizong hung high the ancient mirror; with impartiality nothing went unillumined. That monk bowed without replying; the purport of the sutra was distinctly clear. Xuedou said, 'August Heaven has no favorites; it aids only virtue.' What about that?" Striking his staff, he said: "The four seas are entirely subsumed within the imperial transformation; who on the three borders dares violate the frontiers?"
