師乃云：「年窮歲盡，東村王老夜燒錢；臘盡春回，樓上有人頻勸酒。以此發揮佛祖不傳之妙，以此契證衲僧衣下之功，無論革故鼎新，只要知時識節。且結交頭一機，如何顯露？」卓主丈：「惟愛清臺新曆日，懶觀韓子送窮文。」

The Master then said: "The year runs out and the seasons end; Old Wang of the eastern village burns paper money at night. The twelfth month ends and spring returns; upstairs, someone repeatedly offers wine. Use this to demonstrate the un-transmitted wonder of the Buddhas and patriarchs; use this to verify the monk's effort under his robe. Regardless of discarding the old and setting up the new, one only needs to know the times and recognize the seasons. But when the juncture is tied together, how is this one dynamic revealed?" He struck his staff: "'I love only the clean terrace's new calendar, / too lazy to read Master Han's essay bidding farewell to poverty.'"
