上堂：「諸方多說見地，鄮峯只論宗旨，見地明則為見地所奪，宗旨通則為宗旨所執，如今要討一箇見地不明、宗旨不通底，出來做松源直下火種，不亦難乎。」

Ascending the hall: "The various quarters mostly speak of view; Maofeng discusses only the essential doctrine. When one's view is bright, one is snatched away by the view; when the essential doctrine is penetrated, one is grasped by the essential doctrine. Nowadays, if one wants to find someone whose view is not bright and whose essential doctrine is not penetrated to step forward as the direct kindle of Songyuan, is it not exceedingly difficult?"
