5.77

首山示眾：「諸上座不得盲喝亂喝，尋常向爾道，賓則始終賓，主則始終主，賓無二賓，主無二主，若有二賓二主，兩箇即成瞎漢，所以我若立爾須坐，我若坐爾須立，坐則共爾坐，立則共爾立。雖然如是，急著眼始得。」

Shoushan instructed the assembly: "You senior seats must not blindly shout or wildly shout. I constantly tell you: the guest is the guest from beginning to end; the host is the host from beginning to end. The guest has no second guest; the host has no second host. If there are two guests or two hosts, the two of them become blind fellows. Therefore, if I stand you must sit; if I sit you must stand. When sitting, I sit together with you; when standing, I stand together with you. Although it is like this, you must urgently fix your eyes [upon it] before you get it."
