舉：「洞山聰和尚，凡新到便問：『溈山水牯牛，作麼生會？』前後皆不契。雪竇到亦問，竇云：『作後人標牓。』山擬道，竇以坐具拂一下便行，山云：『且來上座。』竇云：『未參堂。』」

He cited: "Whenever a newcomer arrived, Upādhyāya Dongshan Cong would ask: 'How do you understand Guishan's water buffalo?' None of them matched [his mind] from beginning to end. When Xuedou arrived, he also asked him. Xuedou said: 'It serves as a benchmark for later people.' As Dongshan was about to speak, Xuedou swept once with his sitting mat and left. Dongshan said: 'Come back for a moment, elder!' Xuedou said: 'I have not yet entered the hall.'"
