舉：「石梯一日見侍者托鉢上堂，乃喚侍者，者應喏，梯云：『甚處去？』云：『上堂齋去。』梯云：『我豈不知汝上堂齋去。』云：『除此外，別道箇甚麼？』梯云：『我只問汝本分事。』云：『若問本分事，某甲實是上堂齋去。』梯云：『不謬為吾侍者。』」

He cited: "One day Shiti saw his attendant carrying an alms bowl to ascend the hall. He called to the attendant, who answered 'Yes.' Shiti said: 'Where are you going?' He said: 'Ascending the hall for the meal.' Shiti said: 'How could I not know you are ascending the hall for the meal?' He said: 'Aside from this, what else should I say?' Shiti said: 'I am only asking you about the fundamental matter.' He said: 'If you ask about the fundamental matter, I am truly ascending the hall for the meal.' Shiti said: 'You are not mistakenly my attendant.'"
