舉：「羅山一日侍嵓頭遊山次，忽然喚云：『和尚。』頭云：『作麼？』山乃近前作禮問：『和尚豈不是三十年前，在洞山又不肯洞山？』頭云：『是。』山云：『豈不是法嗣德山，又不肯德山？』頭云：『是。』山云：『不肯德山，即不問，只如洞山，有甚虧闕處？』頭良久云：『洞山好佛，只是無光。』山便作禮。」

He cited: "One day, while Luoshan was attending Yantou walking in the mountains, he suddenly called out, 'Upādhyāya!' Yantou said, 'What is it?' Luoshan then stepped forward, bowed, and asked, 'Was it not that thirty years ago, while at Dongshan, Upādhyāya also did not approve of Dongshan?' Yantou said, 'It was.' Luoshan said, 'Was it not that while being a Dharma heir of Deshan, you also did not approve of Deshan?' Yantou said, 'It was.' Luoshan said, 'Not approving of Deshan I will not ask about; but as for Dongshan, what deficiency did he have?' After a long pause, Yantou said, 'Dongshan was a fine Buddha, but he simply had no radiance.' Luoshan then bowed."
