7.138

居常多不器，情謂盡方知，有眼挂空壁，無心合祖師。
衲穿隨手補，客至下階遲，或問虛堂叟，慇懃說向伊。

In daily life, I am mostly useless as an implement;
Only when feelings and views are exhausted is it known.
Having eyes, they hang on the empty wall;
Having no mind, it tallies with the ancestral masters.
When the patch-robe is torn, my hand mends it as it goes;
When a guest arrives, I am slow to descend the steps.
If someone asks about the old man of Xutang,
Tell him earnestly with full care.
