8.43

佛涅槃上堂：「靈鷲山頹，毘嵐風起，善類撫膺出涕，魔軍頓足歡喜，愛之欲其生，惡之欲其死，豈止乎二千年前而已，野外春風花正都，黃鶯枝上分明語。」

On the Buddha's nirvāṇa, ascending the hall: "Gṛdhrakūṭa collapses; the vairambha wind rises. The good beat their breasts and weep; the mara armies stamp their feet and rejoice. Loving him, they wish him to live; hating him, they wish him to die—how could this be limited to two thousand years ago? In the countryside the spring breeze brings blossoms into full glory; on the branch the yellow oriole speaks distinctly."
