8.61

上堂，僧問：「黃檗打臨濟時如何？」師云：「逼生蠶作繭。」僧云：「臨際掌黃檗時如何？」師云：「冬行春令。」僧云：「若與麼黃檗、臨濟二俱瞎漢。」師云：「許多年黃檗、臨濟，今日方遇知音。」僧云：「黃檗、臨濟有甚麼過？」師云：「如龜負圖。」僧云：「於中還有得失也無？」師云：「喫棒了聽欵。」僧云：「若如是，和尚也是箇瞎漢。」便禮拜，師云：「家無小使。」

Ascending the hall, a monk asked, "How was it when Huangbo hit Linji?" The Master said, "Forcing a living silkworm into a cocoon." The monk said, "How was it when Linji slapped Huangbo?" The Master said, "Enacting spring mandates in winter." The monk said, "If so, then Huangbo and Linji are both blind rascals." The Master said, "After so many years, Huangbo and Linji only today meet someone who knows their tune." The monk said, "What fault do Huangbo and Linji have?" The Master said, "Like a turtle bearing a diagram on its back." The monk said, "In this, is there still gain and loss or not?" The Master said, "Having taken the blows of the staff, listen to the confession." The monk said, "If it is like this, then the upādhyāya is also a blind rascal." He then bowed. The Master said, "This household has no servant-boy."
