8.66

謝新承天和尚，上堂：「泰山頹，巨靈可託；絃音斷，鸞膠可續。顧茲末運，正脈將沈，不因豆爆冷灰，何得雲峯肉煖。所以松源師祖道：『敗壞多年苕帚椿，等閑拈起定宗綱，箇般標格天然別，不比諸方孟八郎。』此是老子不平之氣，今對人天眾前，分付石帆和尚，於姑蘇城畔大闡芳猷，使天下衲僧知有東山正續。」

Ascending the hall in gratitude to the new Upādhyāya Chengtian: "When Mount Tai collapses, one can rely on Juling; when the string's sound breaks, it can be rejoined with phoenix glue. Looking at these end-times, the authentic lineage was about to sink; without a bean bursting from cold ashes, how could Yunfeng's flesh stay warm? Thus Master-Ancestor Songyuan said: 'A broom stump ruined for many years: / Casually picked up, it settles the ancestral guidelines. / Such a standard is naturally distinct, / Unlike the reckless fellows of every quarter.' This was the old man's indignation. Today, before the assembly of humans and devas, I entrust it to Upādhyāya Shifan to broadly propagate the fragrant model by the walls of Gusu City, so that patch-robed monks of the world may know of the genuine continuation of Dongshan."
