復舉：「溈山和尚山下有一菴主，仰山去驗他云：『山中和尚道，許多人秪得大機，不得大用，庵主以謂如何？』庵主云：『再舉看。』仰山復舉，被庵主攔胸一蹈。仰山歸舉似溈山，山呵呵大笑。」拈云：「溈山呵呵大笑，是笑仰山？是笑菴主？明得方知者一蹈有落著處。」

He brought up further: "Below the mountain of Upādhyāya Guishan, there was a hermitage master. Yangshan went to test him, saying: 'The upādhyāya in the mountain says that many people only attain the great function and do not attain the great functioning. What do you say, Hermitage Master?' The hermitage master said: 'Bring it up again and let me see.' Yangshan brought it up again, and was given a kick in the chest by the hermitage master. Yangshan returned and related this to Guishan; Guishan burst into loud laughter." Raising the case, [the master] said: "Guishan burst into loud laughter—did he laugh at Yangshan? Or did he laugh at the hermitage master? Only when you clearly understand will you know that this single kick had its landing place."
