The Master then said: "The two kinds of giving—material wealth and Dharma—are equally without difference. Why then are the mountains on the northern path high, while the mountains on the southern path are low? If you understand one phrase, it is like being moistened with sweet dew, hair and bones instantly refreshed; if you advance one pair of chopsticks, it is like drinking clarified butter, all minds filled with virtue. Mount Jing behaves as if no one is around, accepting neither. Why?" He struck with the staff: "A cold calf returns late to the mulberry embankment; the ownerless short fence blossoms on its own."
