謝秉拂冬齋上堂：「以佛法玄妙布施於人，如雀填滄海，以醍醐上味供養於人，如蜜裡砒霜，是他宿習因緣，佛也救他不得。徑山明如業鏡，這裏無爾討便宜處。」

Ascending the hall to give thanks for taking up the whisk at the winter vegetarian banquet: "Giving the profound and wondrous Buddha Dharma as an alms offering to people is like a sparrow filling the azure sea. Making offerings of the supreme flavor of clarified butter to people is like arsenic mixed in honey. It is their habitual karmic condition from past lives; even a Buddha cannot save them. Jingshan is as bright as the karma mirror; here, you have nowhere to seek an advantage."
