Ascending the hall, a monk asked, "When the Dharma-body is ill, the physical body is uneasy; when the physical body is ill, the Dharma-body is uneasy. How can one escape this?"
The master said, "Apply it to the mouth."
The monk said, "Illness of the physical body indeed exists; how can the Dharma-body be ill?"
The master said, "Its illness is most painful."
The monk said, "Much like Old Vimalakīrti suffering on behalf of sentient beings."
The master said, "You do not know him fully yet."
The monk said, "Could it be that the Buddha's hand cannot cover it, while human minds treat it as ordinary?"
The master said, "Parting the waves to look for water."
The monk said, "Ultimately, how is it?"
The master said, "Wait until your nostrils have no breath, then I will tell you."
The monk then shouted.
The master said, "Coward!"
