Submitted with prostrations: The Venerable emitted light, pointing to the land of eight auspicious signs and six excellences; King Aśoka upheld the relics, manifesting the realm of the ten continents and three islands. This is an ancient site of enlightenment of Śākyamuni; it strictly requires an enlightened person to occupy the abbot's quarters. Chosen from among the four assemblies, decided by the Nine-fold Court: Senior Monk and Chan Master Xutang [Zhi]yu, a boat of compassion in the ocean of wisdom, the mind-seal of the ancestral school. His hall is empty and stores the bright moon, completely devoid of a single speck of dust; his forest is deep and shakes with pure wind, sweeping clean all obstacles. Having presided over famous monasteries across Zhejiang, he briefly reposed among the idle clouds of Lingyin. It is fitting that toward Yuji Peak he extend a branch, and directly occupy the golden lion seat to set forth the four verses. Returning east clothed in brocade, he transmits anew the lamp of Vulture Peak; facing north with a pinch of incense, he reverently prays for the longevity of the Sage Emperor. Respectfully submitted.
