Nanyuan on a monk asking: "'Upon the lump of red flesh, a wall standing ten thousand cubits high'—is this not the upādhyāya's word?" Yuan said, "It is." The monk thereupon overturned the meditation bed. Yuan said, "Look at this blind fellow acting wildly!" The monk hesitated; Yuan immediately struck him and drove him out.
