He cited: "At the foot of Mount Gui, a monk lived in a hermitage. Yangshan went there and cited Guishan's instruction to the assembly: 'So many people have only obtained the great capacity, but have not obtained the great functioning; what is the meaning of the upādhyāya in the mountains speaking like this?' The monk said, 'Please cite it again.' When Yangshan cited it again, he was kicked in the chest by the monk. Yangshan returned and cited this to Guishan; Guishan laughed heartily, ha-ha!"
