The master arrived at Rufeng. The assembly requested him to ascend the hall: "Beneath Xuedou's gate, all are of superior capacity and sharp faculties. Approaching them, one's hair stands on end; gazing at them, one's spirit becomes bewildered. Arriving here, who dares carelessly communicate news? Fortunately meeting the Old Man of the Western River on the dais, who is one of the household, I cannot avoid borrowing the wind to hoist the sail. Therefore it is said: 'Meeting a companion of the Way on the road, crossing shoulders as you pass, the lifetime's work of study is completed.' Even though it is like this, tell me: when those of superior capacity and sharp faculties whose study is completed meet, how do they encounter each other?" Striking with his staff: "Before the Brocade Mirror Pavilion, the wind is biting; atop the solitary peak of Miaogao, the snow is vast."
