舉僧問夾山。撥塵見佛時如何。山云。直須揮劍。若不揮劍。漁父棲巢。後僧舉問石霜。撥塵見佛時如何。霜云。渠無國土。何處逢渠。僧回舉似夾山。山上堂云。門庭施設。不如老僧。入理深談。猶較石霜百步。頌曰。

A monk asked Jiashan: "What is it like when one brushes aside the dust to see the Buddha?" / Jiashan said: "You must wield the sword directly; if you do not wield the sword, the fisherman roosts in a nest." / Later, a monk brought this to Shishuang and asked: "What is it like when one brushes aside the dust to see the Buddha?" / Shishuang said: "He has no realm; where would you meet him?" / The monk returned and recounted this to Jiashan. Jiashan ascended the hall and said: "In setting up the house style, he does not match this old monk; but in deep talk of entering principle, I am still a hundred paces behind Shishuang." / The verse says:
