舉風穴在郢州衙內。上堂云。祖師心印。狀似鐵牛之機。去即印住。住即印破。只如不去不住。印即是不印即是。時有盧陂長老。出問云。某甲有鐵牛之機。請師不搭印。穴云。慣釣鯨鯢澄巨浸。却嗟蛙步𩥇泥沙。陂佇思。穴喝云。長老何不進語。陂擬議。穴便打一拂子云。還記得話頭麼。試舉看。陂擬開口。穴又打一拂子。牧主云。佛法與王法一般。穴云。見箇什麼。牧云。當斷不斷。返招其亂。穴便下座。頌曰。

Pointer: Fengxue was in the government office in Yingzhou. He ascended the hall and said, "The seal of the ancestral teachers' mind is like the mechanism of an iron ox. When removed, the impression remains; when kept, the impression is broken. Just as when it neither leaves nor stays, is it right to stamp it, or is it right not to stamp it?" At that time, Senior Lupei came forward and asked, "I have the mechanism of the iron ox; I request the Master not to apply the seal." Fengxue said, "Accustomed to angling for whales to calm the great deep, / I turn to sigh at the frog-hopping wading through muddy sand." Lupei paused in thought. Fengxue shouted and said, "Why does the Elder not advance a word?" Lupei hesitated. Fengxue struck him once with his whisk and said, "Do you still remember the topic? Try reciting it!" Lupei was about to open his mouth when Fengxue struck him with his whisk again. The prefect said, "The Buddha Dharma is just like the king's law." Fengxue said, "What do you see?" The prefect said, "When what should be decided is not decided, one turns around and invites disorder." Fengxue then stepped down from the seat. The verse says:
