3.21

舉雪峯問僧。什麼處去。僧云。普請去。峯云去。師云。莫動著。動著三十棒。雲門云。隨語識人。又是為蛇畫足。

[The Master] cited Xuefeng asking a monk: "Where are you going?" The monk said, "Going to the communal labor." Feng said, "Go." The Master said, "Do not stir; if you stir, thirty blows. Yunmen said, 'Knowing the person by following his words'—that too is drawing legs on a snake."
