3.26

舉趙州云。有佛處不得住。無佛處急走過。師云。沈空滯迹。犯手傷鋒。俱未是衲僧去就。直須莫入人行市。莫坐他床榻。正不立玄。偏不附物。方能把住放行。有自由分。

[The Master] cited Zhaozhou: "Where there is a buddha, do not stay; where there is no buddha, run past quickly." The Master said, "Sinking into emptiness and stagnating in traces, blunting the hand and wounding the blade—neither is the conduct of a patch-robed monk. You must not enter other people's marketplace; do not sit on their couches. The upright does not establish the profound; the biased does not attach to things. Only then can you hold fast and let go, having your own freedom."
