3.36

舉僧問韶山。是非不到處。還有句也無。山云有。僧云。是什麼句。山云。一片孤雲不露醜。師云。通身回互。不觸尊嚴。退位傍提。要當宛轉。還見韶山相為處麼。盡力推爺向裏頭。

[The Master] cited: A monk asked Shaoshan: “Where right and wrong do not reach, is there still a phrase or not?” Shaoshan said: “There is.” The monk said: “What is the phrase?” Shaoshan said: “A wisp of solitary cloud does not expose ugliness.”
The Master said: “Interpenetrating with the entire body, without offending majesty; stepping back from the position and bringing it up indirectly, one must be subtle and accommodating. Do you see where Shaoshan accommodated him? Pushing father inward with all one's might.”
