3.47

舉僧問曹山。子歸就父。為什麼父全不顧。山云。理合如斯。僧云。父子之恩何在。山云。始成父子之恩。僧云。如何是父子之恩。山云。刀斧斫不開。師云。翡翠簾垂。絲綸未降。紫羅帳合。視聽難通。犯動毛頭月昇夜戶。密移一步鶴出銀籠。還知麼。脫身一色無遺影。不坐同風落大功。

[The Master] cited: A monk asked Caoshan: “When the son returns to the father, why does the father pay no attention at all?” Caoshan said: “In principle, it should be like this.” The monk said: “Where is the affection between father and son?” Caoshan said: “Only then is the affection between father and son accomplished.” The monk said: “What is the affection between father and son?” Caoshan said: “Knives and axes cannot cleave it apart.”
The Master said: “The emerald curtain hangs down; the silk decrees have not been issued. The purple gossamer bed-curtain is closed; seeing and hearing are hard to penetrate. Disturbing the hair's tip, the moon rises on the night door; secretly moving a single step, the crane exits the silver cage. Do you know? Casting off the body in a single hue, without leaving a shadow; not sitting in the same wind, the great merit drops away.”
