上堂語處不傷筋骨。句中有玄。做處不帶瘢痕。用中得妙。能恁麼去也。自然不見膠膠綴綴紛紛紜紜。所以道。常寂寂常歷歷。諸佛不求覓。眾生斷消息。若能恁麼擔荷去。更有甚麼應用不周。更有甚麼生死可及。到恁麼時。古人又道。猶屬功在。且作麼生轉得。與那人合去。還會麼。戶外有雲從斷徑。坐中無照勝然燈。

Ascending the hall: "Where one speaks, it does not harm sinews and bones; within the phrase, there is the mysterious. Where one acts, it bears no scars; within functioning, one attains the wondrous. If you can proceed like this, naturally you will not see clinging and attaching, tumult and confusion. Therefore it is said: 'Ever silent, ever distinctly clear; all buddhas do not seek it, sentient beings cut off its news.' If you can shoulder it like this, what application could fail to be complete? What birth and death could reach you? Arriving at such a time, the ancients also said: 'Merit is still present.' But how do you turn around and unite with that person? Do you understand? Outside the door, clouds follow the broken path; sitting without illumination surpasses lighting a lamp."
